Spent part of my weekend on the roof with my two favorite people soaking up the sun. Surround yourself with love and sunlight!
21 Days of Sunshine Starts Today!
What a beautiful Monday! The sun is shining and I am feeling positive and grateful!
Today is the day!
I have heard time and time again that it takes 21 days to develop a new habit so no day but today to get started on reaffirming my new habits. How to go about that you say? Well, over the past few weeks I have been feeling not quite myself. I am adjusting to new surroundings while getting reestablished in the city after getting back from my most recent gig. I have been asking myself recently how to live my life to the fullest. How can I be my best self, best friend, and best daughter?
So today, I start my journey. I start my journey of getting back to my passions and growing towards being a better me. 21 days is nothing in the scheme of things but these 21 days could make all the difference. This idea came to me this weekend after I hosted a housewarming party at my new apartment. I normally don't eat sugar, but I treated myself to all the goodies surrounding me. At the end of the night I felt so unhealthy and weighed down by all the snacks I had consumed. I realized I was not accountable for what I had eaten and I did not even remember eating half of the sweets I had eaten. I attribute that to a lack of mindfulness. Yesterday I was looking forward to an event that the Big Quiet was hosting at the Oculus, the transportation hub at the World Trade Center. I have been following this company around New York trying to go to one of their events the last two years so yesterday was the day! While doing yoga with my room mate before the event, I got an email saying the event was canceled and I would be refunded my money for the tickets. I was so upset. I had been looking forward to this jumpstart for several weeks now and seeing the email made my heart sink. My wonderful room mate took the opportunity to bring the sunshine back by taking me out to dinner and we planned a movie night full of laughs and home made banana ice cream with peanut butter and cacao nibs. It made me think, why do I need an event outside of my control to jumpstart the work I do within? So I decided I would get on my own track to mindfulness.
I have created my goals and outlined them on a calendar. I have written them in my journal AND told my parents and roommates about this 21 Days of Sunshine and they will act as my accountability partners throughout the following weeks.
My 21 Days of Sunshine Goals:
1. Ten Minutes of Morning Meditation
2. Yoga Practice
3. No Sugar
4. A Glowing Green every morning
6. One Act of Kindness a Day
7. Only Positive Words
8. One Post a Day About My Journey
9. Ten minute Night time Meditation
I am looking forward to my journey and eager to begin! Feel free to follow @asunshineinthecity on Instagram for more inspiration and to see how the next 21 days unfold!
